It can be used both orally and injected intravenously. The drug is manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Ltd., Vetmedica Division, Canada.

Clenbuterol is a non-steroidal anabolic and metabolism accelerator. However, Clenbuterols illegal use is popular in livestock because its ability to induce weight gain and a greater proportion of muscle to fat.

An experiment carried on Clenbuterol, in which horses were administered doses of Clenbuterol, showed that horses responded by a marked decrease in intrathoracic pressure, a decrease in respiratory rate, an initial decrease followed by an increase in arterial oxygen partial pressure and clinical improvement.
