Once content has been through both the creation and editorial phases of the content management process, it is considered ready for “publication.” The term publication applies to all of the various ways that the content is made accessible to the public.

Depending on the format of the material being published (visual, audio, text, etc) as well as whether the content is to be published in a traditional, or digital media format, the publishing phase will involve different methods of completion.

After editing, the content which is to be published is forwarded to the “publisher.” The publisher is generally the financial backer for the content. It is the publisher’s responsibility to oversee the printing, or other avenue of displaying, the content to the public. The publisher is also responsible for marketing and promotion of the material.

Publishers may either be traditional print publishers, such as those that oversee the printing of books, magazines and other types of printed materials, or they may be web based publishers, overseeing the publication of such products as e-books, web-site content, video or audio...
