When at the Serengeti one says goodbye to civilisation as we know it and enters the territory where there are no footpaths but only furrowed trails spawned by generations of migrating wildebeest, where The Lion is the undisputed de facto king, elephants trumpet as they uproot whole trees, the hacksaw cough of a prowling leopard echoes in the near distance and Maasai with their cherry shukas and gleaming spears herd their livestock and share this wild meadowlands with zebra, Cheetahs and Buffalo.
