Ultimate Frisbee History

The sport of ultimate Frisbee has been around since 1967. It was started on a college campus while a group of students were hanging out. Frisbee was already commonly played there and they wanted to make it more competitive for their own entertainment. One of these students named Joel Silver transferred to another college in Lafayette in 1970. He introduced the game to the new friends he made at this campus as well.

It wasnt until 1972 that ultimate Frisbee competitions began taking place among colleges. There were only a few teams during those first couple of years by the thrill of the game spread rapidly. By 1975 there were more than 20 college teams playing against each other. By 1979 things had grown so much that regions were drawn so that teams could play against those locally. The top teams would then play each other for the title of the year.

It wasnt just the college kids that were enjoying ultimate Frisbee though. By 1976 there were clubs all over the place, especially warm areas such as California and Florida.
