As children, we have all watched ants scurry around in an ant farm. Whether you owned one yourself, or if it was a school display, you understand the complexity that is an ant farm. However, there is still one question that goes unanswered about this product. This question is, what is an ant farm? While the main purpose of this product is to allow us to learn about ants, there was still one part about the ant farm that was unclear, and that was the exact farm itself. Ever since the ant farms introduction into the public in 1929, there have been numerous advancements and upgrades to the ant farm. These ant farms range from the simplistic to the highly advanced, but they all have the same foundational structure.

If you were to take a look back at the ant farms from the 30s and 40s, you would notice that they all had the exact same look to them. The packaging rarely changed, and it usually included a wooden frame that held two transparent pieces of glass that were filled with a substance.
